What is the goal of this program?
- Learning to answer basic WH questions
Why is this program important?
- Increasing the understanding of perceived information
- Enhancing your child’s auditory and visual attention
- Learning to discriminate and answer different types of WH questions
- Facilitating interaction with other people
How can this be taught?
- First, teach discrimination of WH words by using WH cards. Start teaching with 2 cards on the table, say e.g. ‘What is this?’, and your child has to get the ‘What’ card. Move on to 3 cards upon mastery.
- Next, prepare 3 WH cards on the table and show a question card with 1 element (e.g. television) to your child. Then ask ‘What is this?’, your child has to get the ‘What’ card then answer ‘television’.
- Stage 3 is similar with the previous phase except having question cards with 2 elements (e.g. television in a living room).
- Take away all WH cards in the last stage, hold up a question card with 2 elements and ask your child WH question.
